DESCRIPTION
The present volume is a collection of research papers and studies contributed by the author during the period of last fifty years. International and national authors and works are dealt with herein along with some important regional authors who have not been properly assessed by the historians of Sanskrit literature in their standard compositions. To mention a few dramatists like Saktibhadra, kulasekhara Varman and Purnasarasvati are seen omitted by these historians. Saktibhadra's contribution is hailed as producing oil from sands while Kulasekhara reformed the Kerala stage by parving way to the origin and development of the Kutiyattam theatre which is unique in the field of histrionics. The contribution of Melputtur Narayanabhatta is wide in its range embracing pure and technical Sanskrit. In the field of message poems, Kerala made significant contributions compared to any other region. Historical poems like the Musikavamsa of Atula which is earlier than Rajatarangini of Kalhana, Yamaka poems exhibiting almost all the types, Tantra literature dealing with temple rituals and architecture which is unique in its conception and range, astrological and astronomical treatises exploring new paths, customs and manners peculiar to the south etc. are noted herein. In short the present work forms a supplement to the history of Sanskrit litrerature already published from different regions.
