Buddhism in India faced schism after the demise of Buddha. It has been distributed into no less than eighteen sects. A Controversy remains whether all sects had separate Book(s) of Discipline, Vinaya(s). According to the Chinese sources Lutsung developed and several Buddhist texts of Indian origin are preserved in Chinese translation. Many of them hold no original versions in Indian Language.
Mulasarvastivada Vinaya Manuscript in Sanskrit found in Gilgit (now in Pakistan) is significant in comparison with the theravada Vinaya in Pali. It comprehensive study has been awaiting. The author engaged in researches of this field for years to focus on it. |
