Livestock have played a pivotal role in the development of human civilization, around the world and continues to be an integral part of human society, culture and the local and global economy.
Animals or livestock grow in size and increase in productivity, efficiency and quality. Since, fourteenth century, new breeds of lasting economic utility have been developed, and growth in trade, migration and exploration has brought new domestic species and breeds to various regions around the world.
Progress in the art and science of breeding, feeding and health care of livestock continues to achieve gains in livestock productivity and efficiency. Improvement in transportation allows the raising of food-producing animals at greater distances from population centres.
