DESCRIPTION
Urban-rural relations have been conceptualized and interpreted in terms of diverse processes like separation, polarization, opposition, domination/subordination and more recently nexus formation. Infact urban-rural relations have always been interdependent even though the intensity, nature, extent and direction of these relations have been varying in time and space. In a similar vein the book brings forth the changing nature and intensity of urban-rural relations in India in general and the inter-state Chandigarh Region in particular. The entire empirical exercise of urban-rural relations has been conducted from the perspective of regional development to comprehend the changes in urban-rural relations with the emergence of Chandigarh as a newly planned city in 1953, a Union Territory in 1966 and thereafter as a regional capital city. The book will prove useful not only to the students and researchers in Geography but also to scholars in History, sociology, anthropology, economics, political science, development studies and other related, applied fields.
