Amara Simha's Namalinganusasana was composed prior to Kavyaprakasa of Mammata whose period was 11th Century A.D. It is also called as Amarakosa, Amaramala and Trikandi. Amara Simha has been counted as one among the leading eight Vaiyakaranas. He was during the reign of King Virkrama, whose Rajasabha was adorned by Navaratnas (nine eminent scholars).
Amarakosa has several commentaries; Sudha by Ramasrami of Bhanu Dikshita, Rayamukuti, Amara Dipika, Trikanda Rahasya of Ramanatha, Amarakosodghatana of Ksiraswami and the present one by Maheswara. First published in 1907, this book was out of print for a long time and it is now being thought out in the hope that scholars and students of Sanskrit will find it useful. |
