Welfare of the people, the country or the state which a government controls heads the priority list of things of any government in the world. There are umpteen organizations governmental and non-governmental in our society to safeguard the different sections in our society yet many aspects need to be taken into consideration before one can even dram of an ideal state. Although India is a rapidly growing economy, the income disparity prevalent amongst the people and our poor Human Development Index clearly indicate that much need to be done in the area of social welfare. Poor literacy rate, ever present and increasing infant mortality rate and sex ratio in several sates present a dismal picture of the steps taken for the welfare of the masses. Provision of quality primary education to children transgressing castist, regional, gender and religious bias and provision of security to women who are now taking up employment in different occupations at par with men will be a positive initial step in this direction.
