 DESCRIPTION

The present Commemoration Volume is a symbol of the love and appreciation of his numerous pupils, friends and admirers. There can't be a better tribute to a scholar like him than this compendium of research papers reflecting various facets of Orientology, contributed by the scholars from the East and the West. The present volume has got West. The present volume has got eight sections of Orientology representing eight pillars of a strong edifice. The volume is enriched with the contributiosn received from scholars round the globe. The contributing scholars are authorities in their respective fields. This endeavour, like the life of the personality it commemorates, was not without hardship. The recent trends in Orientological researches are far from being encouraging. This is because of the fact that a number of branches viz. South-East Asian Studies, West-Asian Studies, Arabic and Persian etc. are not being pursued with zeal and fervour. We have consciously tried to touch upon some such aspects, so that these branches are not relegated to oblivion; but in deference to Dr. Dhal's area of interest, comparatively greater number of articles are devoted to Epics and Puranas, his first love and lore.
