Ambedkar was one of the greatest sons of Mother India. His contribution in various aspects of life and freedom of India has been immense. Ambedkar began the revival of Buddhism in India that has grown tremendously after his death, and continues to grow today among his countless followers He was deeply committed to upliftment of Dalits which is recognized al over the world. He was by far the most educated leader of his time. Ambedkar always stressed the importance of better education, so that our position in society can be uplifted. He belonged to very poor and down trodden family. He suffered humiliations during his education and career. He had his differences of opinion with Mahatma Gandhi and some other leaders of freedom struggle, yet his role in achieving freedom was unmatched. It was he who was primarily responsible for the constitution, adopted after India became independent. He was front rank constitutional expert and made adequate provision for the weaker sections.

The importance that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar had in the shaping f modern India should not be forgotten. His work and mission continue today -- we must not rest until we see a truly democratic India of equal citizens living in peace together.

Although scholars have written extensively on the subject, yet there is scope for analyzing his ideology in greater details.

In this encyclopaedia of ten volumes, we have attempted to present some of the important aspects of his multi-dimensional contributions and ideas which we believe will be of great interest to the students and scholars working on this subject.
