DESCRIPTION
Devadasi, virgin temple dancer, is prevalent in India since the pre-vedic days. The book presents a discussion on this dance form in seven chapters. In the first four chapters the author discusses the beginning of classical dance, Land, People and Religion of Assam as well as origin and spread of Saivism and how the great god Siva (Nataraja) was associated with it. In the following two chapters he speaks of antiquity and popularity of Devadasi dance. In the seventh and last chapter he analyses the significance of the songs. The book contains 22 songs with 'bol' of devadasi dance of Assam.
