DESCRIPTION
New materials and processing technologies development in the last two decades have heralded a near revolution in areas as diverse as information technology to biomedical engineering. Some of the typical examples are technology development for producing silica and erbium doped silica fibers with lengths up to several kilometers that have made possible optical communication across continents at giga bits per second. Similarly magnetic nano-particles are being considered actively for applications such as treatment of cancerusing hyperthermia.
