This book is based on the definitive and widely acclaimed Flowers of the Himalaya by the same authors. The Concise covers as much as possible of the Himalayan flora in a more portable and less expensive form. All the colour illustrations (over 690) and 315 block and white drawings of the parent volume have been retained, but the descriptions in the text have been abbreviated and limited almost entirely to those species which are illustrated. The area covered in the Concise remains the same as in Flowers of the Himalaya-from the Nepal-Sikkim border in the South-East of the Himalaya to the India-Pakistan border in the north-west. The boundary to the north is the Tibet border. Southwards, the sub-tropical flora which is found at lower attitudes towards the Indian plains has mostly been omitted, but a few prominent species have been included.
