This was intended to be collected works to be brought out to commemorate the four decades of teaching and research of Prof. R.C. Sharma. The original plan was to publish these papers in three volumes - each dealing with a distinct area of Professor R.C. Sharma's interest. The underlying theme was Political Geography - a subject so dear to his heart, his obsession to which he devoted most of his creative years at the JNU, often ploughing the solitary furrows all alone. In a series of discussions, made at the behest of the editors during 1996-98, the following themes were identified to be included in this volume.
